Ye'varechecha Adonai v'yishmarecha: Ya'er Adonai panav eleicha vihuneca: Yisah Adonai panav eleicha v'yasem l'cha shalom.

The Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

I will be reciting the Aaronic benediction every evening at the last gathering as the dismissal prayer.

Hebrew Name Translator

Use this Hebrew Name Translator to write kid's and adult's names in Hebrew.

You can also use the Hebrew name to create name bracelets. We will be making them with earthen color beads I found at Walmart.

Bandanas

When the children meet their Tribe Leaders on the first day they write their Tribe's name on solid color bandanas and decorate them with Jewish symbols. Another idea is to print Tribe names and logos on iron-on transfers and have them ready for the kids.  Use fonts like Shalom or Peace. You can purchase solid color bandanas from Tan's Club. They are on sale 12@$3.24 (You must buy a dozen of the same color). For color matching check out the this sample chart created by Mike.

VBS Mascot

JETHRO

Jethro is our VBS Mascot. He will be welcoming the kids everyday and help them with the Daily Bible verse at the end of the program. Every child will receive a daily take home gift, but we will also hide Jethro inconspicuously during the night and give out an extra prize to whom ever spots him first.  You can find this puppet and other bible characters at Children's Ministry Today.

Writing Scrolls

Since we plan to have a couple of clay projects, we will be using scrolls instead of clay tablets at the Synagogue School. This way the kids will be able to take home their Jewish alphabet and other writings. After all, Papyrus paper and ink was the most common materials used for writing and scrolls where the "books" of those days.

Handles were made from (2) 1" dowels cut 8" long and 1" dowel caps. I used brown packaging paper which was stapled to the dowels. It worked very well!

Coins for JM

Someone donated a bag of 500 plain wooden coins which they got from e-bay. We will stamp numbers and jewish symbols on the coins. I will make coin pouches out of a large piece of vinyl which was disposed of at a local upholstery warehouse.

We will use these to pay wages to apprentices for their work at the different shops.  They will then have money to pay the Tax Collector and give to the "beggar" who will be out side the courts "church" begging for food and money. We will ask the "beggar" to take note of the kid(s) who gives and later award them with a special "Cheerful Giver" certificate. We will also have a Toy Shop (keeping the II commandment in mind) where they can buy little inexpensive toys like jewish symbol stickers, stamps, plastic shofars, etc.

Quill Pens

For writing on the scrolls (Synagogue School) we plan to use Quill pens made of large feathers and pen filaments. See instructions below.

Although we won't be using genuine quills and ink, we will tell the kids how various inks were made.

Start with a large feather and the inside of a ballpoint pen. I got a pack of 24 for .99¢

Carefully cut the tip with a razor blade.

Slide the pen filament in slowly. If opening is to small cut a little higher. Mine fitted perfectly. You may need to glue the tip if pen slides out easily. If filament is too long you will need to trim it to size.   Homemade Quill Pen

Cost = .36¢
